Death of Black Australia

"Have you had enough, Mr Doomadgee? Do you want more, Mr Doomadgee? Do you want more?"

Deputy state coroner Christine Clements had ruled in September that Queensland police officer Chris Hurley struck Mulrunji Doomadgee, 36, and caused his fatal injuries on November 19, 2004 at the Palm Island police station.

But Director of Public Prosecutions Leanne Clare said today charges would not be laid against Senior Sergeant Hurley. Ms Clare said the evidence was not capable of proving Snr Sgt Hurley was criminally responsible for Mulrunji's death, and said it was "a terrible accident''.

Thanks for mentioning the story - I have been following it on my blog, and found your article through Google News.

Next Wednesday, December 20, we're having a rally in Brisbane to insist the public prosecutor be dismissed, and that S/Sgt Hurley be charged.
